As you may know, beginning in January of 2016, the Town will be undertaking an ambitious public construction project to build a new fire/rescue headquarters for our community. The timing of all phases of this project has been carefully planned and will need to be just as carefully coordinated.
Preparation work will commence during the month of December 2016 with demolition of the former Water Department building and associated storage building completed by the end of January. Site work (utilities/drainage/fill) will be conducted throughout the winter with establishment of the foundation in March dependent on weather. The exterior of the facility is expected to be completed by September of 2017 with interior work being finalized during the winter 2017-2018 season. The last component of the construction will be the completion of a new parking area for use by the Council-on-Aging and visitors to fire headquarters in April of 2018.
In order to meet this schedule multiple contractor crews will need to be on site most work days. Normal work hours will be 7:00am to 5:00pm. It is anticipated that some work may need to continue 6 days/week, through some Saturdays in order to complete the project.
The Council-on-Aging will remain open and secure throughout the construction of the fire department facility and will benefit from the project by the replacement of their aging septic system, creation of additional outdoor space, and a new parking lot with adequate parking spaces and lighting.
The Brewster Fire Department will continue to operate out of our current facility throughout the duration of the project. While our entire locale will be impacted by construction vehicles, contractors, and material deliveries our ability to provide effective EMS and Fire services to the community will continue at its current high level of prompt, professional delivery.
On behalf of the Town of Brewster, we would like to formally request your patience and tolerance during this very important public construction project. However, should you have questions, concerns, complaints, or condition reports, feel free to call the Brewster Fire Department at 508-896-7018. Thank you very much for your anticipated help in assuring that our community’s first responders will be able to answer your calls for assistance from a modern, safe, state-of-the-art facility for many future years.
