For more than twenty five years, Massachusetts volunteers have scoured beaches, river banks, marshes, and the seafloor to pick up trash and record information about the types of trash being collected. These volunteers are part of COASTSWEEP, the Commonwealth’s annual coastal cleanup program, organized by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management and the Urban Harbors Institute of the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Each year, more than 2,000 COASTSWEEP volunteers collected several tons of trash from beaches, marshes, rivers, ponds, and the seafloor. The Town of Brewster coordinates numerous beach clean-ups throughout the winter months, this will be the 5th time we have partnered with COASTSWEEP to record what we are finding.
On Saturday, September 21st from 9am-11:30 we continue our partnership with COASTSWEEP and join forces with the Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod Alumni, Brewster F.L.A.T.S members and enthusiastic community members to sweep Brewster’s Beaches.
Come join us for another year of community building through environmental stewardship. Volunteers are meeting at Drummer Boy Park at 9am to pick-up supplies and get their clean-up route.
