On Friday, May 3, the annual Ice Cream Social was held at the Brewster Senior Center in conjunction with the Friends of Brewster Elders.
This event is held each year during the Brewster In Bloom weekend and is always well attended. This year, we combined it with the 45th birthday of the Council on Aging, so over 200 pieces of birthday cake were also consumed. Over 400 bowls of ice cream were served by an army of volunteers from both organizations, as well as employees of Atlantic Payroll. All the workers were identifiable by their yellow t-shirts bearing an image of the Senior Center and celebrating the 45th birthday. We were lucky to have the rain hold off and many of the families were able to play outside on the lawn. Inside, we had Ed Smith, aka The Caricature Guy and an employee of Delphi Construction (builders of our new Fire Station), working his magic and drawing wonderful images of many of our visitors and volunteers. Music was provided by Centertonix, the a cappella ensemble of Cotuit Center for the Arts, who performed both in our main room and upstairs, where we had an overflow of partygoers. Our new town administrator, Peter Lombardi, was on hand to observe the festivities.
We would like to thank the many volunteers who set up and broke down tables and chairs, scooped and served the cake and ice cream and generally kept everything running smoothly. Thank you also to the many visitors who came out to support the Brewster Council on Aging.
