Select Board Seeks Public Comment On State Purchase Of Land Next To Nickerson State Park

The Brewster Select Board has received a request from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to purchase surplus tax title land adjacent to Nickerson State Park and Route 6. The 13.85 acres of land is broken up into 6 separate parcels that were acquired by the town through the tax title process in 1996. According to the Assessor’s office, they are currently being assessed as unsuitable for development, land locked with no frontage. The state is offering to purchase the land for $140,000 which is slightly above the assessed value. If Town Meeting approves the sale this spring, the closing would occur by June 30, 2019 and be used to boost the town’s finances. See attached map and correspondence in PDF format.
