How often should I have my septic system pumped?
A septic tank traps the solids from raw sewage and allows the liquids to drain into a leaching facility. The solids should be pumped from the septic tank every three years. If the tank is not pumped regularly, it will fill with the solids which will then overflow into the leaching facility and clog the soil, causing the entire system to fail. The repair or replacement of a failed system is far more expensive than the regular preventive maintenance of pumping.
