Open Burning Season ends on May 1st.
Open burning season in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will end on May 1, 2026. Permits will be available until 12:00 pm May 1st. To safely conduct an open burn of brush residents must first obtain a permit from the Brewster Fire Department.
Permits may be purchased in person at Fire Headquarters, 1671 Main Street, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The fee for in-person permits is $10.00. Permits will not be sold in person on weekends and/or holidays. Permits may also be purchased online through the Towns permit portal. In addition to the $10.00 fee, there is a service charge to use the electronic payment system.
Residents will be required to continue to call the department's automated burn line (508) 896-5174 daily to inquire if burning is permitted based on local weather conditions and to provide the location of the burn.
Brewster Fire retains the right to suspend burning during unacceptable weather conditions and to revoke the permits of those individuals violating open burning regulations. We respectfully request that all residents take the time to read the regulations regarding open burning and to be considerate of their neighbors and the environment when conducting these fires.
