Open Burning Season Starts January 15

Fire Department

Open burning season in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts begins on January 15, 2024 and ends on May 1, 2024. To safely conduct an open burn of brush residents must first obtain a permit from the Brewster Fire Department.

In Person Purchase

Permits may be purchased in person at Fire Headquarters 1671 Main Street, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The fee for in-person permits is $10.00.

Permits will not be sold in person on weekends and/or holidays.

Online Purchase

Permits may be purchased online through the Towns permit portal at https://brewsterma.viewpointcloud.com/  In addition to the $10.00 fee permit there is a service charge to use the electronic payment system as follows:

  • $1.29 Credit Card Fee
  • $0.50 Electronic Check Fee

Residents will be required to continue to call the department’s automated burn line daily to inquire if burning is permitted based on local weather conditions and to provide the department with the permit number and location of the burn. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts open burning regulations can be found on the permit and on the department website Fire Prevention page.

Brewster Fire retains the right to suspend burning during unacceptable weather conditions and revoke the permits of those individuals violating open burning regulations. We respectfully request all residents take the time to read the safety precautions and rules regarding open burning and to be considerate of your neighbors and the environment when conducting these fires.
