Cemetery Commission
Mission and Responsibilities
The mission of the Brewster Cemetery Commission is to ensure our town cemeteries:
- Commemorate the deceased
- Provide a respectful location for burial within Brewster
- Offer the bereaved a serene space for reflection
- Preserve and honor Brewster's cultural heritage and history
The responsibilities of the commission include:
- Develop and propose cemetery policies to the Select Board and advise the Select Board regarding the operation of town cemeteries
- Work cooperatively with Brewster's Departement of Public Works (DPW) to develop cemetery management and maintenance practices including policy and fee structures for plots and perpetual care, long range capital improvements of existing and any new cemeteries, and ongoing care and maintenance of town cemeteries.
- Maintain in conjunction with the DPW an accurate record keeping system for all town cemeteries
- Meet as needed with the Select Board to present status of the town cemeteries
