Super Bowl Oysters – Monday February 5

Oyster Harvest

The Town of Brewster will host another oyster harvest day on Monday, February 5 at Mants Landing.  The beds will be open from 1:00 pm until the supply runs out.   If weather conditions do not permit harvest on the 5th, the event will be moved to February 6 at 2:00 pm.  This event will not be held if conditions place staff or harvesters at risk.

2024 Recreational Shellfish Permits are required to participate and are now available for purchase at Town Hall.  There will not be permits for sale on the day of the event.

As you mark your calendar, keep in mind these helpful hints:

  • Remember to dress warm.
  • Bring a 2024 shellfish permit.
  • Wear gloves to protect your hands and boots for your feet.

This year, the Department of Natural Resources is putting together a collection of recipes, stories, and photos from our shellfishing community in the first edition of Favorites from the Flats.  We need your help!  Please email your favorite recipes for oysters in the following categories: raw, cooked, and soups.  Please include a picture to accompany your recipe.  Do you have a unique way to eat oysters?  Send it in - we will have a chapter called “Outside the Shell”.  We are also looking for photos and stories related to the flats and your happy times spent there.  All submissions can be sent to cwest@brewster-ma.gov.
