Upcoming Forums to Discuss Brewster’s Aquaculture Regulations

Aquaculture

The Town of Brewster’s Natural Resources Department will be holding two discussion forums on April 10 and April 30 on possible updates to the current aquaculture regulations. The Barnstable County Cooperative Extension’s Marine Division will be helping to facilitate these meetings.

What is driving this conversation?

The current aquaculture regulations were adopted in 1995. In the 29 years since, the Massachusetts aquaculture industry has grown, and current regulations do not adequately address many present-day issues. Demand for use of the Town landings has increased, with multiple user groups competing for limited parking (i.e. mooring holders, kayak rack holders, beach users, commercial use). There is a need to find a fair balance between commercial and recreational use at Town landings.
