A reminder that the Town of Brewster’s first Oyster Sunday is October 22 at Mants Landing, with the beds opening from 10:30am-1:00pm. 

This year the Department of Natural Resources is putting together a collection of recipes, stories and photos from our shellfishing community in the first edition of Favorites from the Flats.  We need your help!  Please email your favorite recipes for oysters in the following categories: raw, cooked, and soups.  Please include a picture to go along with your recipe. Do you have a unique way to eat oysters?  Send it in, we will have a chapter called “Outside the Shell.”  We are also looking for photos and stories related to the flats and your happy times spent there.  All submissions can be sent to cwest@brewster-ma.gov

As you mark your calendar, keep in mind these helpful hints:

  • Remember to bring a current recreational shellfish permit – purchase permits online here.
  • Plan ahead – avoid parking issues by coming later in the harvest period.
  • Please keep your catch at 5 quarts.
  • Wear gloves to protect your hands.
