BGTV Policy

The Brewster Government Access Cable Television Channel (Channel 18) is intended solely to provide information to Brewster citizens about issues, services, programs, activities, and events involving or affecting local government and the community.

Any Town policy-making and regulatory board or commission including Town Meeting, may request live and delayed cablecast and webcast. Telecasting of those Boards and Committees listed on the attached sheet shall be automatic as a matter of routine. This list may be amended from time to time by the Town Administrator to reflect changes as the proceedings of different entities are approved for telecasting.

All other Selectmen-appointed advisory committees and commissions, not named on the attached list, but wishing to have meetings or events televised regularly shall submit a written request using the attached application form. Public meetings of other Town committees may be cablecast and/or webcast, if time and resources permit. Applications are also required for requesting video services and/or cablecasting or webcasting of pre-recorded items.. Authorization is subject to approval of the Town Administrator or the Assistant Town Administrator. All public meetings of Town boards and committees which are televised shall be cablecast and/or webcast in their entirety, without editing and without commentary.

Bulletin Board items may be submitted to the Town Administrator by any Brewster government agency or Brewster-based public service organization. Items must be consistent with the intentions of this policy and shall be cablecast at the discretion of the Town Administrator or the Assistant Town Administrator.

Programming produced by Channel 18 or other entities related to government facilities, services and/or operations, or to issues and events in the public interest, may be cablecast and/or webcast as deemed appropriate by the Town Administrator or Assistant Town Administrator. Written permission for the use of copyrighted materials must be received in advance. Programming may be modified or edited as deemed appropriate by the Town Administrator or Assistant Town Administrator.

The Brewster Government Access Channel shall not be used to promote a candidate for elective office or advocate any position of a political nature; however, programming in the format of a debate or forum shall be presented subject to the provisions of this policy.
