Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority Launches Fare-Free Bus Service & Assesses Future Needs

Cape Cod Regional Transportation Authority

The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) has announced that all fixed-route bus services across Cape Cod will be fare-free for all riders. The CCRTA’s fixed-route network includes service to town centers, beaches, ferry terminals and key shopping and medical destinations. This expanded access supports local families and workers, as well as Cape Cod’s robust tourism economy, especially during the summer months. This major initiative is made possible through funding from the Fair Share Amendment, a statewide measure designed to invest in public education and transportation infrastructure.

With fifteen towns and more than 1,200 miles of roadway, Cape Cod presents real challenges for residents and visitors trying to get around without a car. In collaboration with the CCRTA, the Cape Cod Commission is conducting a two-year study to evaluate the region’s transit needs. The study aims to gather public feedback, assess current conditions, and identify strategies to improve service, making transit safer, more accessible, and more effective for everyone.  Community members are invited to visit the Online Transit Viewer to take the survey and use the interactive public comment tool to share their thoughts, identify challenges, and suggest improvements.
