REMINDER – It’s Mosquito Season! Learn How to Protect Yourself and Your Home
Mosquitoes can transmit serious illnesses such as West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) which is transmissible to both humans and animals. Late Summer until the first hard frost in the Fall is the busiest season for mosquito activity and the risk of exposure to WNV and EEE. For the 2024 season, Cape Cod has not experienced any human or animal cases of either disease, however, numerous mosquito pools have tested positive in our abutting communities. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their pets.
The Cape Cod Mosquito Control Project is actively monitoring and treating our popular mosquito habitats on the Cape to help reduce the mosquito populations for the remainder of this season. In addition to our marshes and inland wetlands, these mosquitoes are often found in our own backyards in small containers with standing water. Protect yourself by emptying standing water in your yard and limiting outdoor activities when mosquitoes are most active which is dusk to dawn.
