Board of Assessors and Assessors Department

BOARD OF ASSESSORS MISSION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Board of Assessors is a three-member appointed Board responsible for the valuation of real and personal property in Brewster for the purpose of assessing the property tax levy. The Board has the authority to grant abatements and exemptions.

ASSESSORS DEPARTMENT

The Assessors Department maintains a database of all parcels in the town, including the address of the owner, land measurements, and a description of structures, including their quality and condition. The Department is responsible for classifying real estate as residential, commercial, industrial or open space; determining the full fair cash value of real estate for the purpose of taxation; administering motor vehicle and boat excise taxes for the Town; and administering abatement, exemptions and deferrals in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws.
